EU Battery Due Diligence Postponed: What It Means for Companies
The EU has postponed enforcement of battery due diligence obligations from August 2025 to August 2027, giving companies more time to prepare for complex compliance demands. The delay reflects challenges in supply chain mapping, alignment with other EU regulations, and industry feedback. Once in force, the rules will require large companies placing batteries on the EU market to implement due diligence policies, digital traceability systems, supplier risk assessments, grievance mechanisms, and public reporting. Supply chain mapping remains the biggest challenge, as most companies lack visibility beyond tier two suppliers. Despite the postponement, businesses are advised to act early by engaging suppliers, piloting traceability tools, and phasing in compliance processes, so they can meet the 2027 deadline.
