European BESS manufacturer prepares its battery systems for the EU’s 2027 Digital Battery Passport requirement while building a data infrastructure for the full battery lifecycle.

Bohumín, Czechia, 29 October 2026: GAZ Energy, a European manufacturer of battery energy storage systems (BESS), is partnering with Minespider to implement Digital Battery Passports for its industrial battery systems. The partnership will connect product compliance and lifecycle information to individual battery systems, providing customers and project partners structured access to battery information as its European portfolio expands.

GAZ Energy’s BESS projects currently exceed 2 GWh across Germany, Finland, Czechia, Poland, Slovakia and Romania, with projects at different stages of implementation. As the company expands its large-scale energy storage activities across Europe, the partnership with Minespider will establish a scalable data architecture that can be used across existing and future battery systems. The Digital Battery Passport will bring together relevant product, manufacturer, compliance and lifecycle information and connect it to a persistent identifier for each battery system. The information can be accessed through a physical data carrier such as a QR code, while API-based integrations allow relevant data to be updated as battery systems enter operation and throughout their lifecycle.

For BESS customers and project developers, this creates a consistent way to access information associated with the battery system. Product documentation, compliance information, circularity data and relevant operational data can be structured around the battery system and shared through public and permissioned data layers, giving different stakeholders access to the information relevant to them.

The implementation also prepares GAZ Energy for Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, under which, from 18 February 2027, each industrial battery with a capacity greater than 2 kWh placed on the EU market or put into service must have a Digital Battery Passport. The partnership therefore combines preparation for the upcoming regulatory requirement with a practical data infrastructure designed for the battery’s lifecycle.

Minespider and GAZ Energy are also establishing the identifier and QR-code structure connecting each battery system to its passport.

“A Digital Battery Passport becomes much more valuable when the data behind it remains connected to the battery after it enters the market,” said Nathan Williams, Founder & CEO, Minespider. “GAZ Energy is connecting regulatory and product information through persistent identifiers and APIs. That gives GAZ Energy a foundation for the 2027 requirement and for battery data that stays useful across the life of the system.”

“Our customers invest in battery systems with a long operational lifetime, and the information associated with those systems needs to remain accessible and useful throughout the project,” said David Vodička, a member of the GAZ Energy Board of Directors. “As our BESS portfolio grows across Europe, we see Digital Battery Passports as an important part of building a consistent and transparent data environment around our systems. Working with Minespider allows us to prepare for the upcoming European requirements while creating a practical solution for our customers and partners.”
